Welcome to our wrap-up of Episode 11 of This Week in Cannabis News.

Hereโ€™s what you need to know this week

U.S. andย Canada market updates

All eyes are on New York as the application period for the conditional adult-use retail dispensary (CAURD) license applications had ended. A total of 903 applications were submitted. The first tranche of licenses are only available to those people directly impacted by the war on drugsโ€”themselves or their families. From these 903 applications, the first 150 licenses will be granted. Excellent coverage of this can be found in Marijuana Moment, and even the New York Times got into the action.

Also in New York, Berner, the rapper and founder of Cookies, noted on LinkedIn that they are looking for people to help lead the charge for Cookies in the state.

But New York isnโ€™t the only new destination that Cookies is eyeing. Terrascend and TRP announced this week that they are teaming up to bring Cookies to Pennsylvania.

South to Mississippi, where the State of Mississippi is already seeing financial benefits of the cannabis industry: having collected almost $6 million in application and licensing fees from the nascent cannabis industry there - per MJ Biz Daily. ย And a quick note, following todayโ€™s This Week in Cannabis Retail, we will be hosting a webinar for would-be Mississippi cannabis businesses - a link to how to register is in the show notes.

And north to Canada, where the most profitable cannabis business in the country isnโ€™t a business at all. Itโ€™s the Provincial wholesaler and ecommerce retailer the Ontario Cannabis Store, according to a story in MJ Biz Daily. And the Ontario Cannabis Storeโ€™s success, might be related to why Canopy Growth (once the largest cannabis company in the world) is getting out of retail altogether; having sold their retail assets to other cannabis operators.

Shoutout to Flora Cannabis in Middlebury, Vermont for receiving one of three Vermont adult use licenses! There is a great piece on NBC5 in Vermont featuring the shop where you can hear from the owner. And if you watch carefully, you can see one of Dutchieโ€™s new Point of Sale terminals in the shop!

Lastly, in case you missed it, for the third year in a row, Dutchie is on LinkedInโ€™s list of "LinkedIn Top Startups 2022: The 50 U.S. companies on the rise", topping the cannabis industry entrants at #16.

Featured guest: Eric Schlissel, CEO at Cure8

This weekโ€™s โ€œFrom an Expertโ€ segment features Eric Schlissel from Cure8, an IT services and security company. Team Dutchie works closely with Eric and his team; in fact, he recently joined us on our Mississippi webinar.
