Market Type

In Utah, cannabis is regulated by the Center for Medical Cannabis.Β  Only medical cannabis is allowed.Β 

Tracking & Inventory

Utah currently uses the Akerna state traceability system. Actions must be manually logged, or as there is not a public API.Β Β 

Utah has selected a vendor to build a unique tracking system for future use.

Purchase Limits

Medical

Patients are allowed to possess the lesser of:

  • one-month supply based on the dosage amount specified by their doctor or state-licensed pharmacist at a medical cannabis pharmacy; or
  • four ounces of flower and 20g of THC

Patient Lookup

Utah uses an external patient portal, Utah ID, for validating a patient’s current allotment.Β Β 

Taxes

Medical

No specific cannabis tax, and medical cannabis is exempt from the state sales tax.

Delivery

Delivery may be conducted for patients and caregivers.Β Β 

Delivery operations

Delivery operations in Utah are only allowed to carry inventory for their current deliveries.Β Β 

Delivery locations

Retailers may only deliver to a patient’s registered physical address.

Delivery Menu

Electronic menus are only allowed on the retailer’s site listed in their pharmacy registration.
