Market Type

In Washington, Cannabis is regulated by the Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB). Recreational and Medical Cannabis are available. Medical Cannabis retailers must have a Medical endorsement to serve patients in Washington.Β 

CCRS & Inventory

Washington uses the Cannabis Central Reporting System as a system of record for cannabis inventory. CCRS is a system unique to Washington State, and leverages .csv file uploads to track sales and inventory movement.

Purchase Limits

Adult-use

In Washington, recreational consumers may purchase up to:

  • 1 Oz usable Cannabis
  • 16 Oz of cannabis infused product meant to be eaten or swallowed
  • 7 Cannabis infused extract or concentrate for inhalation
  • 72 Oz cannabis in liquid form
  • 200mg THC in liquid form *If packaged in units of 4mg or less

Medical

In Washington, medical cannabis patients may purchase up to:

  • 3 Oz useable cannabis,
  • 48 Oz cannabis-infused product meant to be eaten or swallowed in solid form,
  • 21 g cannabis-infused extract or cannabis concentrate for inhalation, andΒ 
  • 216 Oz of cannabis-infused product in liquid form meant to be eaten or swallowed.

*All purchase limits in WA are per-product type. (i.e. a recreational customer may purchase 1 Oz of flower, AND 7 g of extracts in a single transaction)Β 

Taxes

Adult-use

37% excise tax + State and Local sales tax

Note: Sales tax should be calculated off the goods and the excise tax, requiring a compound tax setup. (Source DOT Tax Bulletin)

Medical

37% Excise Tax, Medical patients are exempt from sales and use tax

Additionally, when valid medical patients purchase specific, Department of Health approved products that are appropriately packaged and labeled, Patients are also exempt from the 37% Excise Tax.

Delivery

‍Cannabis delivery is not permitted in Washington.Β 

Things to Note

All products must be pre-packed by the manufacturer. Deli-style operations are not allowed.

Cannabis dispensaries are prohibited from selling additional merchandise, with the exception of lockable boxes.
