Where have you previously worked in cannabis? How did you end up working there?
My dream as a child and young adult was to make a difference in the world. Queue in my passion for the cannabis industry - my career in cannabis started in 2018 as a Customer Experience Specialist at a cannabis testing lab, Steep Hill. From that point my journey as a cannabis industry professional propelled into several other multifaceted roles from Budtender, Executive Assistant, HR Generalist and then finally landing at Dutchie starting as an Implementation Strategist!
What did you like most about working with cannabis? What’s a stand out memory from that time?
My favorite thing about working with cannabis is that all of us within this industry are inherently making a difference by being a part of an industry that has an immensely positive impact on the wellbeing of society at large. Being able to witness the ways in which cannabis improves the lives of consumers and patients on physical and emotional level has been the most gratifying experience as a cannabis industry professional
What have you learned moving from plant-touching work to tech? Did anything about the change surprise you?
Just when you think you know how many moving parts there are to the life cycle of the cannabis industry - there’s MORE. so much more. From the distinctive and elaborate procedures that go into cultivating the plant alone, to the unique compliance measures per state, being on the tech side has shown that there is so much more in the vast and endless scope of possibilities that make up the dynamic and ever-evolving cannabis industry!
What’s your advice for those starting out in cannabis? What is there to look forward to?
Remember to remain vigilant, curious and ambitious and never lose sight of why you want to be in this industry and stay true to your passion and love for the plant. There is so much fulfillment and opportunity in the world of cannabis to look forward to!
