Welcome to our wrap-up of Episode 14 of This Week in Cannabis News.

Here’s what you need to know this week

U.S. cannabis market happenings

Alabama

The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission received over 380 requests for applications last week. Would-be operators need to request an application prior to applying.

Are you an applicant? Join Dutchie, Cure8 ,and our partners at the Alabama Cannabis Industry Association on October 26th for an upcoming webinar, Best Practices for Preparing a Competitive Application in Alabama.

Florida

Circle K and Green Thumb Industries are teaming up to build out dispensaries in Florida. The deal starts having GTI leasing space at Circle K stores in Florida for RISE-branded dispensariesβ€”all this and more according to a story in the Green Market Report.

Minnesota

A recent poll in Minnesota suggests that voters in the state support their completely unique approach to legalizing THC edibles (which you may recall have to be hemp-derived). But more than that, Minnesota voters approve of cannabis-derived edibles, too. For more on what’s up in Minnesota, check out our interview with Jason Tarasek of Minnesota Cannabis Law.

New York

At a non-cannabis-related press conference this week in Times Square, Mayor Eric Adams (D-NY) laughed when he smelled cannabis being smoked. Check it out in the clip below.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma voters will be able to vote on adult-use legalization… but it won't be this November. The Governor there announced a special election for March 2023, per Marijuana Moment.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island opened up an application process for some current medical cannabis providers to enter the adult use market. More on that in Grow In.

Washington, D.C.

The Mayor of DC signed a bill that allows non-DC residents to β€œself-certify” as medical cannabis patients and access cannabis in that city. The Mayor - and many, many others - believe it will help drive tourism in the City as access to cannabis becomes easier.

Canadian cannabis market happenings

Uber Eats teams up with retailers to deliver cannabis

Finally, Uber Ears launched an initiative in Toronto allowing consumers to order your cannabis via the Uber Eats app (but, then the store from which you ordered actually delivers the cannabis.)

Featured guest: Alex Eakin, Owner of The Flower Room

This week’s β€œFrom an Expert” segment is with Alex Eakin - the proprietor of The Flower Room in Bend, Oregon. For those that tuned in last week, you saw a conversation and an entire program that was streamed from Bend, Oregon - Dutchie’s headquarters. Well, while we were there, I stopped by The Flower Room to both do some shopping, but to talk shop too. Alex was kind enough to open his doors, share some background about the shop and a bit about how they run their dispensary. So, enjoy this conversation shot inside The Flower Room in Bend, Oregon.
