Market Type

In Maine, cannabis is regulated by the Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP). Medical and adult-use cannabis are allowed.Β 

Metrc and Inventory

Maine uses Metrc as their state traceability system for their adult use market, while the medical side is untracked. In Maine, medical and adult-use cannabis inventory are separated and must be tracked in separate accounts as only adult-use have Metrc accounts. Transfers between medical and adult-use inventory are not allowed.

Purchase Limits

Adult-use

  • 2.5 ounces of cannabis, including no more than 10 grams of cannabis concentrate

Medical

  • 2.5 ounces per 15 day period

10% on cannabis sales

5.5% on cannabis sales

Delivery

Prior to starting delivery services, a retailer must have indicated they will be conducting delivery on their plan of record with the state. There are no third party delivery services allowed in Maine; only retailers can deliver cannabis to customers.

Delivery locations

Retailers may only deliver to residential addresses, except that they may not deliver in any drug free zones designated by a municipality.

Delivery misc.

All vehicles must have GPS.Β 

Adult use delivery is tracked in Metrc, and must be accompanied by a Metrc manifest.

Medical delivery must be accompanied with a trip receipt.Β  The OCP provides a template on their site.
