Welcome to Episode 26 of This Week in Cannabis News.
This week, the second adult-use recreational cannabis dispensary licensee opened in New York. Kudos to Smacked Village in NYC, which was also the first justice-involved individual licensee to open! And because Smacked is a CAURD licensee, they're running their operations on Dutchie.
Also making history this week, the initial medical cannabis sales have kicked off in Mississippi. A special shout to our friends at Star Buds in Oxford, Mississippi for their grand opening and selling their first products to patients.
Newly-elected Maryland Governor Wes Moore took office this week and immediately released $46 million for the recently-voted-on adult use cannabis program. The program isnβt up and running yet, but the wheels are in motionβand these funds show the governor is serious about kickstarting the state's cannabis market.
What Maryland is doing, of course, has major implications for neighbor Delaware. As a result, lawmakers in Delaware have decided to move forward with legalization bills in that state.
Multi-state operator Curaleaf announced that it was closing their operations in California, Colorado, and Oregon, citing the difficult operating environments in these early adult-use cannabis markets.
This week, we are pleased to be joined by two Dutchie leaders working in the vibrant New York market and were there this week for the opening of Smacked Village. Jalen Jones and Brian Donovan joined us to talk about the opening and the other announcement from New York this week that 30 new licensees have been announced.
