Celebrating Women's History Month w/ Sarah Kabakoff

It’s International Transgender Day of Visibility, and what better way to wrap our Women's History Month celebrations than by highlighting Dutchie's Director of Enterprise Solutions, Sarah Kabakoff!

Hey Sarah! Tell me a bit about yourself! Where are you located? What do you work on?

I live in Cincinnati Ohio. I currently am working on a couple of things. Primarily, Dutchie Ecommerce Plus. This is our headless ecommerce engine. Dutchie Ecommerce Plus is an API layer that allows our customers to create a custom user experience on top of the existing Dutchie infrastructure. This means our customers have the ability to create the experience they desire for their customers to replace our iframe while still setting things like taxes and specials and managing orders in the Dutchie dashboard. This creates a best of both worlds experience for the Dutchie and dispensary customers.

What brought you to Dutchie?

The amazing opportunity to work in the cannabis industry. Dutchie truly allows me to bring my whole self to work. Cannabis has been a part of my life since I was a teenager. I’m a medical patient in Ohio. Medical cannabis helps with a back injury I sustained in a fall.

What's your typical day like?

Depends on the day and the project. Lots of huddles and brainstorming. Our team solves problems and makes suggestions related to customer development. I’m also working on the merger and helping to document the sales activities across all Dutchie companies.

What's something about your Dutchie experience that's different from other places you've worked?

The culture of cannabis. Knowing that we are working towards destigmatization of the plant and building awareness of the benefits. This is my dream job and I love it. It’s absolutely incredible to feel like I don’t have to hide a portion of my identity from my employer.

Do you have a favorite Dutchie memory or event?

I haven’t been to any events, but I have many fond memories of chatting with customers that produce products I have previously consumed. It’s such a cool feeling to say “Hey, I’ve smoked your strains”.

What would you tell your younger self when you first started your career?

Get into tech sooner. Don’t be scared to make the jump. Just take the plunge.

What advice would you give to women trying to break into the industry?

Be true to yourself. Don’t be fearful of what you think you can’t do. Jump in feet first. Do research and find the opportunity that is right for you. Research company culture and make sure the company is the right fit for you and your career aspirations. Never sell yourself short because you don’t think you have the experience for the role you are applying for.
